She was born on July 21st, the year of 1933 in Canton, Texas. This past July 21st, she turned 90 years old, July 21st, was also her wedding anniversary. Bettie lived a life filled with service. She faithfully took care of her husband Jay, managed to raise two boys, and helped raise her grandchildren when she was younger and able to do so. In her later years her ministry was more devoted to prayers for family because she was physically unable to do all of the things she loved doing. We are going to miss that! However, we know she’s still praying for us, as she lives on with Jesus.
As Christians we believe and trust the words of the Holy Bible which say: “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8. Hence, we know now that she is not only with Jesus, but also with those who have traveled onto Heaven before her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years J. Lee Simpson. Her mother Sarah Pauline “Polly” Conner, her Dad William E. “Bud” Conner, sisters Nettie Autry and Barbara Jacobs, and her brother Coleman C. Conner and one of her granddaughters, Rain Simpson.
She is survived by her two sons, Willie Jay Simpson and wife (Deborah), and Paul Simpson and wife (Melonie). She is survived by 13 grandchildren, (her prayer would be that all of her family would walk ever more closely with Jesus. Also, that they would know Him, as John 14:6 says, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father except by me.”) From Willie’s family: Joseph Simpson, David Simpson and Sarah “Leigh” Buchanan. From Paul’s family: Jason Simpson, Philip Simpson, Bethany Cook, Hanna Simpson, Amanda Simpson, Christopher Simpson, Rebekah Simpson, Abigail Simpson, Nathaneal Simpson, and Faith Simpson. Additionally, she has 11 great grandchildren. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews, who loved her very much.
A memorial service for Bettie will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Redeemer Baptist Church, 4001 E 29th St Suite 80, Bryan, Texas 77802.
