Kristy Gaines

Kristy was born May 15, 1982, in Atlanta Georgia to Mr. Willie and Mrs. Angela Gaines. On May 3, 2023, she entered glory to be with her Lord and Savior.

Kristy along with her family joined Greater Christ Temple Holiness Church and she was baptized in Jesus’ name on July 14, 1991.

Kristy received her education at Riverdale High School, where she had prefect attendance and was on the A-B Honor Roll. She was also on the Varsity Basketball team and during the summer she plays AAU basketball. She would transfer to East Coweta High School and there she was also a scholar athlete. She maintained all A’s in her College Prep classes and played on the Varsity Basketball team. During her junior year she would receive a full scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi. She would graduate 23rd in her class of 322 students. After leaving the University of Southern Mississippi, she received a full scholarship to the University of Maryland. She would also obtain an Associates of Art from Hagerstown Community College. After she graduated she worked for companies like Gaines and Associates, Phillips and Cohen and Sallie Mae where she was promoted into management. She excelled and was recognized as a top performer, earning awards and those “hefty” bonuses.

Kristy was known for her generous nature and her kind heart. She laughed often and loved to see others do the same. She was funny, outgoing, hardworking and if you needed her, she was always there. She loved her family and friends deeply. She was loyal and kept in contact with family and friends throughout her life. There was nothing that she liked better than a good debate. Above all she believed the best in others, and she never gave up on anyone. Spending time with family was important to her and she made it a priority to do so. She loved to travel, see new places. Kristy will be missed but never forgotten.

Kristy leaves to cherish her memory her wife Desiree Gaines, her children Shatir Downey-Watkins (Alyssa Popo), Terence Beatty-White (Savannah McCoy), Shardae White and Kristian Gaines. Grandchildren: Elijah White, Amyla Downey-Watkins, and Brayden McCoy.

Kristy also leaves to cherish her memory of her parents Willie and Angela Gaines. Her siblings Jermeka Singletary (Travis Singletary), Ikeisha Wills (Eric Wills Jr, Logan Wills, Courtney Wills, Caleb Walker) Sequiyah Hawkins (Steven Hawkins Jr), Manoah McClendon (Johna McClendon), and many loving nieces, nephews; cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
