Born and raised in Newark, NJ. When Evelyn was a teenager, her family moved to Atlanta, GA. After completion of High School, Atlanta, GA, she entered into the U.S. Army and after completion of basic training, Fort McClelland, AL, she was assigned to her permanent military duty station, Fort Gordon, GA. Evelyn received basic military training and advanced administrative training in military correspondence and procedures. She received an Honorable discharge as a Specialist E-4, in the administrative military job series. She attended Atlanta Junior College, Atlanta, GA, and graduated from Atlanta College of Business, Atlanta, GA. She majored in Business Administration and her minor was in Psychology.
During her career with the federal government and the private sector, she attended various career/personal advancement and enrichment courses. After working with the private sector for ten (10) years with Emory and GA State Universities, she accepted a position with the U.S. Government. Evelyn has worked for several Federal agencies in the Administrative, Craft, Professional, and Technical job series. She also has worked in the areas of Marketing, Human Resources, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Procurement, Operations and Safety. She had almost 33 years of federal service.
During her spare time, she was a Mystery Shopper/Field Rep/Auditor. At a very young age, she married her high school sweetheart and was blessed with two grown children and three grandchildren. Her hobbies included reading, writing, poetry, dancing, traveling, the arts, theater, listening to jazz and gospel to include a variety of music. Her mottos were: Treat others the way you wish to be treated and if you can, give your fellow man a helping hand. Her idols were President Barack Obama, Michele Obama, First Lady, Tina Turner, Maya Angelo, Angela Basset, Colin Powell and Dr. Cornel West.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; James Johnson and Loreina Bell, her brothers; Larry Johnson, Bernard Johnson and Ronald Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter; Tonya Rollie, her son; Richard Rollie Jr., her grandson; Durell Harris and her granddaughters; Alexis Rollie and Brianna Cook.
A visitation for Evelyn will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349, followed by a graveside service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
