Betty Jean Upshaw

Elmira Mitchell, and Horace Williams.

Betty received her primary and secondary education in the Muscogee County School District where she excelled academically in all areas.

Betty met the love of her life Jack Upshaw Sr. and was married for 57 years.

As a Military family this union produced 5 children: Kimberly Upshaw Scott

(Robert), Jack Upshaw Jr (Verlinda), Nathaniel Upshaw (preceded in death),

Mia Upshaw Clay (Nathaniel), and LaTanya Upshaw.

In addition to raising her own children she also reared other individuals through the years by providing shelter and guidance until God called her to her eternal home.

Betty's style was impeccable she was always classy and poised with grace and dignity.

Betty was a no non sense Woman with a genuinely loving heart. She would talk to you hours upon hours always giving you sound advice. She was a master seamstress, she loved traveling, cooking, and preparing for family gatherings.

Betty never met a stranger and had a heart of GOLD often times putting others before herself. She adored her family and loved laughter, when certain TV shows were on (HAHN) she'd rush you off the phone just as quick as she answered it.

Betty would literally give you the shirt off of her back, the last pack of meat from the freezer, or her last 2 dollars, always providing you with resources to get whatever else you needed. She had a giving SPIRIT.

Betty was a long time member of St. Mark A.M.E. Church where she served diligently as an Usher. She had various jobs but her last tenure was employment with the City of Atlanta's Watershed department as a Customer Service Representative.

There is no match for the admiration and love that she had for her 10 Grand Children and 3 Great Grand Children, Betty held them near and dear to her heart. She is also survived by 2 Sisters, a Brother, Sister/Friends, In-laws, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews to honor and cherish her memory FOREVER.

Through her pain, tears, and prayers Betty remained Faithful in knowing that God was her strength. Rest peacefully you GOOD and FAITHFUL SERVANT.
