She received a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from New York University, School of Education in June 1947; at which time she married her husband Alfredo (Fred) G. Borsari. She began her teaching career in September 1947 and as a physical education instructor, grades 1-8 for the Mineola Public Schools. During this time, she also enjoyed participating in the Mineola Public Schools Intra-Mural Program where she coached high school varsity girls in field hockey, basketball and softball. She resigned her position in March 1953 when Fred’s company transferred him. Her first son, Robert A. Borsari was born in June 1954.
Fred was transferred several more times as their family grew with the addition of daughter Gina M. Borsari in October 1959 and William F. Borsari September 1961. She really enjoyed summer vacations in places like Kitty Hawk, and the Maryland shore with her sister Doris’ family (the Kestels’) and brother Dicks’ family (the Orths’) During this time Joan devoted her time to raising her family and volunteer activities. Fred’s last transfer was to Florida in February 1967. They settled in Cocoa, Florida, she resumed her teaching career in 1970 as a substitute teacher. She also became a Real Estate Associate, worked at Brevard Memorial Gardens and was a hospital volunteer at Cape Canaveral Hospital.
Throughout her life, she was very involved with her faith and was a very active member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Cocoa, FL and really enjoyed singing with the choir. Her favorite activities included swimming, boating, bowling, reading, gardening, and sewing. She was a member of the Indian River Via De Cristo community and had many close friends from that community.
She is survived by her loving son Robert A. Borsari and his wife Bee of Anaheim, CA and Hollandale, MS, her loving son William F. Borsari of Avon Park, FL, granddaughter Carla Batley, great grandson Hunter Hiles and great granddaughter Hope Hiles of Daytona Beach, FL She was predeceased by her husband Fred Borsari and daughter Gina Borsari, sister Doris Kestel. Shortly before Joan’s death her youngest brother Richard (Dick) Orth passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
A memorial service will be held for both Joan and her brother Richard C. Orth, Jr. on October 21, 2022 at Noon at Trinity Wellsprings Church. Burial to follow at Brevard Memorial Park 3:30 PM.
