On December 5, 2023, the Gates of Heaven opened to receive the Lord’s good and faithful servant, Nancy Lynne Sizer Oelfke. Nancy was born on July 28, 1935, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the late Zena and Edward Randolph Sizer, III and moved to Houston, Texas following the end of World War II after her father’s return home from serving in the war.
Nancy attended Lamar High School and after graduating high school in 1953, she went on to further her education at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, graduating in 1956. Nancy married the love of her life, William Busch Oelfke on June 1, 1956, and they modeled biblical marriage for 67 years.
She was an incredible mother to her two sons, William Edward Oelfke (Melanie Brown Oelfke) and David Karl Oelfke (Rosanne Smith Oelfke). She is also survived by seven cherished grandchildren, David Hill Oelfke (Caroline Morris Oelfke), Kendall Oelfke Fisher (Derek Joseph Fisher), Samuel William Oelfke, William Brown Oelfke, Henry Richard Oelfke, Kathryn Anne Oelfke Smith (Jacob Ryan Smith), Margaret Lynne Oelfke; and one great-grandson, David Hill Oelfke Jr.
Nancy was a godly woman and her faith in Jesus was the cornerstone of her life. She loved her church, Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson, Texas, and was an elder and active member since 1956. She cherished studying God’s word and especially Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) in which she participated for over 20 years as a student and leader. She not only knew the bible in word but lived it out in her faith and left a legacy to her family of how to live out the Christian life. She was an active member of the Lake Jackson community, dedicating her time to the Lake Jackson Junior Service League, the local chapter of PEO, and was a founding and sustaining member of the Brazosport College Women’s Lecture Series. She was honored in 2022 for the “Golden Girl” award for her 50 years of service and participation in her PEO Chapter. Nancy enjoyed attending and leading bible studies, playing mahjong and bridge, tennis at Riverside Country Club and traveling with her husband and their friends. She was an avid fan of Dr Elliot Engel and so enjoyed traveling to his lecture series around the world. Nancy fostered deep relationships with many dear friends that sustained her throughout her life and brought much joy and fulfillment. When her “nest” became empty, she became the executive assistant for State Senator J.E “Buster” Brown for over 10 years and flourished using her incredible organizational skills to benefit the community in which he served.
Nancy will be remembered for her unwavering love of family and friends and dedication to her faith and her physical presence will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held on Monday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 102 Yaupon Street in Lake Jackson, Texas, with a reception at the church afterwards. A private burial will be held prior to the celebration. In lieu of sending flowers, please give to the PEO Chapter FW Local Scholarship Fund c/o #4 Bayou Rd, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566
