It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnny Mack French, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on September 30, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born on June 21, 1946, in Bay City, Texas, Johnny was a beacon of light and love in the lives of those who knew him.
Johnny was the cherished son of John and Claudia French, who instilled in him the values of hard work and kindness. He carried these principles throughout his life, embodying a spirit that was both tender and resilient.
On May 13, 1972, Johnny married the love of his life, Janet French. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they built a beautiful family. Janet preceded Johnny in death, as did his beloved grandson, Chance Gibson. However, the memories they shared will forever remain in the hearts of those left behind.
Johnny is lovingly remembered by his children, Jana Gibson and Jon-Michael French, who carry forward his legacy of compassion and dedication. He was a proud grandfather to Kara Gibson, Colby French, Nicholas French, Caden Gibson, Brandon French, and Cambree Gibson. His grandchildren were the apples of his eye, and he never missed an opportunity to support them, especially at their sporting events.
A distinguished veteran, Johnny served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, completing two tours in Vietnam as a communications specialist. His bravery and commitment to his country were evident, and he continued to serve his community as a dedicated member of the VFW and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Johnny was a man of many talents and passions. He found joy in the simplest of pleasures, from fishing and camping to woodworking and shooting. His craftsmanship was admired by many, and his creations were a testament to his skill and patience.
Above all, Johnny was known for his kind heart and unwavering dedication to his family. He was a hard-working man who always put others before himself, and his family-oriented nature was evident in everything he did.
While we mourn the loss of an incredible man, we also celebrate the life he lived and the love he shared with so many. A viewing will be held at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W Plantation Dr, Clute TX 77531 on Mon, Oct 7, from 5-7 pm.
