John Joseph Yonge (Pete) 71 years of age, passed on to Glory, Sunday, March 24th, 2019. Although born in Savannah, Georgia; John lived here in the Brazosport area from the age of 3. His parents were Arthur D. and Mae A. Yonge. John graduated from the University of Texas in Chemistry and was very proud to be a Longhorn. He worked at Shintech in Freeport, for 33 years and most of this time was as their Environmental Manager. John also volunteered many years as a paramedic in the area and served on countless local Community Advisory and Industry-Related Committees until his retirement. John remained young at heart his entire life; always smiling, always optimistic. He was a kind man of great character, with a sensitive, loving heart for others. He did have a bit of rascal in him, which provided lots of surprises and an impish grin that could pop up at any given moment. He loved to cook and especially enjoyed doing so for church events. Playing Santa at church and all around the Community gave him immense joy for the past six years. However, the water, was John’s first love. It was an integral part of his family’s life, as his father had been a shrimper and boat captain. He found a great spiritual connection sitting on the bow of a boat far out in ocean waters watching God paint amazing sunrises and sunsets. His strong and unwavering faith carried him through life; the good times and the challenging ones.
John is survived by his wife, Julie, who shared 23 of the most incredible, blessed years with him a couple could hope for. He is also survived by many loving family members, and friends. John will be dearly missed here, but there are cherished memories to enjoy until we see him again.
A Memorial service, officiated by Pastor Alan Trafford, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception will be held for John at the Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 102 Yaupon, in Lake Jackson on Sunday, May 5th, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.
