Gordon R. Miller, long-time resident of Lake Jackson, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and join his beloved wife in heaven, on December 8, 2016 at CHI St. Luke’s Brazosport Hospital.
Gordon was born in Dallas, TX on October 16, 1927 to Henrietta and Gordon R. Miller, Sr. He graduated from Buna High School in 1946 and served in the Army Air Corps for three years during WWII. In 1951, he graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry, minor in Physics and Math. That same year Gordon started his career with Dow Chemical in Freeport. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Gladys Jean Cowart. Gordon worked for Dow Chemical for 36 years and retired in 1986. Most of his career was at Dow Freeport, except for a relocation to the Dow Russellville, AR plant from 1972 to 1976. Gordon held a variety of positions with Dow Chemical. His title at retirement was Safety and Loss Prevention Manager for Texas Operations.
Gordon loved golf, fishing, and hunting and especially bow hunting. After retirement he and Gladys enjoyed traveling, RVing, dancing, playing bridge and attending local community activities. In later years, he spent many hours a day corresponding with family and friends on his home computer.
Gordon was a kind, caring, and affectionate man. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson. Before Gladys’ passing they both enjoyed Sunday School Classes at First United Methodist Church Lake Jackson. He was always dedicated to his family and friends, and will be greatly missed!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, who he was married to for almost 60 years; his parents; a brother, Paul, who passed at a young age; and his beloved sister, Betty Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet Edmondson and husband, Jerry Don; son, Jerry Miller; two grandchildren, Thomas Edmondson and Michael Edmondson; one great-grandchild, Cassidy Edmondson; one brother, John R. Miller, and other in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held in Kirbyville, TX at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 13th. A Gathering Celebrating Gordon’s life (come & go) will be at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute, TX from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 14th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Aids at IPH Home Health Care and Dr. Dalal, Dr. Baradhi, and their staffs for the compassionate care of Gordon.
