Charlene was born in May 1943, to Charlie & Mildred Machacek in Bay City, TX. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and a great-grandmother. Charlene was instrumental in the DECA Club during her years at Brazosport High School and was awarded several honors for her work. She became the Secretary for the Local 564 IUOE in Freeport, TX; Secretary for the First Baptist Church in Clute, TX; and owner of several flower shops in Angleton, TX. Charlene was an avid cook. She was very proud of her Czech heritage and had a passion for learning about her ancestors and history of her heritage. Charlene was a co-founder, president, and VP of the Texas Genealogical Society in Temple, TX, where she was Publisher/Editor. She also wrote/published many books and cookbooks regarding the Czech heritage.
Charlene Ann Machacek-Hurta is predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Mildred Machacek.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin Leroy Hurta; her brother Lawrence & Gwyn Machacek; her children Tina Thomas & Tammie Schraeder, Roger & Stacy Thomas; stepson's Chris & Donna Hurta, Mike & Genelle Hurta; grandchildren Reece & Michelle Thomas, Kendall & Jonathan Landry, Ryan Haagensen,
Jessi & Ben Mars, Amanda, Jason & Amy Hurta; and great grandchildren Colton, Maxton, Holden, & Parker.
Years ago, Charlene chose to will her body to Baylor College of Medicine for cancer research. There will be a Celebration of Life at 1:00 P.M. on December 16, 2023, at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 West Plantation Dr. Clute, TX 77531.
