James was born and raised in San Diego, CA, and came to Fresno, CA as a student of California State University, Fresno. He met his wife, Lexi, and Fresno became home. James was first and foremost a husband and father. He loved his family fiercely and when he wasn't working he was devoting every last second of his time to them. He was often found playing with his children or doting on his wife. James was a friend to everyone who needed one and he enjoyed bowling with his bowling league, the Red Hot Chili Bowlers, although he never questioned skipping a bowling night if his family needed him. James was a lover of sports, and being a native of San Diego, had a fondness for the Padres and of course the Chargers. James was also a fan of Doctor Who, and the following quote from The Doctor in season three, episode six, applies perfectly to James, "Some people live more in 20 years than others do in 80. It's not the time that matters, it's the person." James did that. He lived. He spent every day making life count, and by doing so made a great impact on every person he met. James will be missed fiercely but his legacy will live on through his two beautiful babies.
He is survived by his wife, Alexi McLaughlan; his children, Bailey Elizabeth, and Hunter James; parents, Mark and Ann McLaughlan; sisters, Wendy and Brandy McLaughlan; mother-in-law Dottie Duncan; nieces Linnzi Dewey, and Annabelle Reyes; nephews, Joshua and Kyle Dewey; as well as countless friends and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 8, 2017 at Boice Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following at the family's home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James' honor to Pink Heals Inc., 9303 E. Bullard Ave., Clovis, CA 93619. Additionally, A Go Fund Me has also been set up for his family at https://www.gofundme.com/family-of-james-mclaughlan.
