Carlos Acosta DeTevis of Fremont, California passed away peacefully at home in Fresno, California at the age of 96 on September 4th, 2022. He was born on January 29, 1926 to the parents of Raquel and Adolfo DeTevis in Dawson, New Mexico. Carlos was a WWII Navy Veteran as a minesweeper on the USS Loyalty as Seaman First Class. He was an excellent swimmer.
He married Pauline Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1953. As newlyweds, they moved to California to raise their 4 children. Daughters Claudia Rodriguez of Cody, Wyoming and Carla DeTevis of Hughson, California. Sons Carlos DeTevis (Jana) of Chino, California and Cliff DeTevis (Margarita) of Visalia, California. As a proud father he wanted his children to carry his initials. Carlos and Pauline were married for 69 years making many lifelong friends.
Carlos was self-employed as a carpenter from 1952 to 1982, where he owned Carl's Rack Company in San Leandro, California. His trade building display racks for many stores which included grocery stores, co-op's and department stores throughout California.
Carlos loved fishing, hunting, camping, playing pool and pinochle at the senior center and golfing until the age of 90. He was Past President of the Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club and a member of Five Spots. Carlos enjoyed going to the Raider Football games with family, wearing his favorite Kansas City team jacket. Through the years, he took his children and grandchildren on many vacations to Yellowstone, New Mexico, and many National Parks. Carlos and Pauline traveled by plane, ship, car, or motorhome to Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, Europe and throughout the United States.
Carlos is survived by his wife, children, sister Elsie Garcia (George), 7 grandkids, 15 great-grandkids, and 3 great-great-grandkids and many nieces and nephews.
Carlos is preceded in death by his parents Raquel and Adolfo DeTevis, brother Frank Carrillo, brother Joe DeTevis, brother Fred DeTevis, brother Tony DeTevis, brother Max DeTevis, brother Johnny DeTevis, brother Pete DeTevis, brother Manuel DeTevis, and sister Minnie. His In-laws Louis and Vera Martinez and Son-In-Law Dennis Rodriguez.
A Funeral Mass for Carlos will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 929 Harvard Avenue, Clovis, California 93612.
Following the Mass will be a Graveside Service at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, 264 North Blythe Avenue, Fresno, California 93706.
Let us give thanks for his time and all the wonderful memories we have and remember what he would say, "Don't let the little ones eat the big ones." and "Another day, another dollar.".
