Robert A. Smolarek, age 88, passed away August 14, 2018. Beloved husband of Elaine for 60 years; dear father of Karen (John) Pilotto, Matthew (Kelly Jo), Annette Gough (Mike), Greg (Cheryl), Audrey (Michael) Pionk and Donald (Sheryl); loving grandfather of Johnny, Jennifer (Jimmy), Dallas, Candice, Brandon, Jimmy (Laurie), Sarah (Mike), Sean, Kyle, Kevin, Jerry (Tiffany), Bradley, Mitchel and Allyson; proud great grandfather of Julia, Jordyn, Emma and Mckenna. Robert loved to bowl and fish however, he had a lifelong passion for softball. He enjoyed playing cards especially euchre and poker. He was a great story teller particularly good at funny ones. He loved watching the Detroit Tigers. Robert was a hockey dad to his sons. Robert was a member of the Moose Lodge 1837 of St. Clair Shores, VFW of Fraser, a Fourth degree Knights of Columbus JKF and American Legion 4. He was a family man who will be missed by everyone who knew him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family. Memorial visitation Friday, August 17, 2018 3pm to 8pm. Inurnment with military honors to be held at 9:30am on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Please meet at the gates at 9:15am.
