After a hard-fought battle, fighting hard to overcome many health issues, Richard Glen Weaver of Harrison Township passed away peacefully at home on April 16, 2020. Richard was born on August 1, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to Willie Wendell & Betty Mae (Ritter) Weaver, who predeceased him, as well as his brother Robert “Bobby” Weaver.
Rich leaves behind his wife Shirley Ann (DeVries) Weaver. His two sons Robert (Melissa) Weaver and Jeffrey (Sandi) Weaver and five grandchildren: Taylor Tucker, Aidan Weaver, Molly Weaver, Luke Weaver, and Hailey Gaines.
Richard joined the US Army from 1966 to 1968 as a “Vietnam War Vet” and then served in the Reserves until 1972. During his time of service, he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Sharp Shooter M-14 Rifle Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Expert M-16 Medal.
Richard was employed by the Detroit Police Department as an Officer and then moved to Vice & Organized Crime. He was a long-standing member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Police Post. He became a Union Representative in the Grievance Committee, and after that, he was the Secretary Treasurer for the DPOA for many years before his retirement in 2007.
Richard was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed life, boating, gambling, bowling with the guys and most importantly his family and friends. Richard requested two things, that he be cremated and to have a Celebration of Life with family and friends. Services for Richard will take place at the Huron Pointe Yacht Club, 32800 S. River Road in Harrison Township, at 11:30 am on Monday, July 26, 2021.
