Martin Cornelius Van Houzen, 91, of Empire, went to live with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 8, 2010 in Oxford, MI.
Martin was born May 24, 1924, in Detroit, to Cornelius and Cornelia (Hartman) Van Houzen. After serving in the U.S. Army during WW II, Martin married the love of his life, Harriet Ann Elzerman, on May 24, 1946 and the two raised four sons and a daughter in Fraser, MI.
Martin successfully managed VanHouzen Bros Painting Co. out of Fraser. The couple retired to the Glen Lake area in 1986. Martin loved fishing Glen Lake, snowmobiling, and enjoying all of God’s natural bounty in northern Michigan. Mart and Harriet were also very active members of Glen Lake Community Reformed Church.
Martin was a wonderful, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and enjoyed socializing with his extended family.
Along with Harriet, his wife of 69 years, Martin is survived by Martin (Lisa) Van Houzen of Bloomfield Hills, Joyce (Cliff) Stacy of Shepherd, Kenneth (Amy) Van Houzen of Flushing, David (Lynette) Van Houzen of Lake Orion, and Daniel (Karen) Van Houzen of Lake Orion; 15 grandchildren, Elyse, Darren, Courtney, Dayna, Mia, Max, Ben, Joslyn, Meagan, Sarah, Allen, Kyle, Chelsea, Katlyn, and Derek. Martin also had 13 great-grandchildren. Martin is also survived by a brother, Leroy Van H ouzen.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at Kaul Funeral Home in Clinton Township, Michigan.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11:00am with a 10:00am Instate at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church,
4902 W. MacFarlane Rd., Glen Arbor, MI 49636. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire, Michigan.
