She was the treasured niece of her uncle Frederic (Hillary) Ward Jr.
Katie went to Chippewa Valley Schools and studied at Macomb Community College. As an adult, she worked as a CAD Designer in the automotive industry.
As a girl, Katie excelled at music. She was first chair clarinet, was a member of the marching band, and went to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Her love for music would carry over to a love of rock and roll, and going to see Broadway musicals with her parents and grandmother.
In her childhood, Katie was very athletic and played softball and volleyball. She also did very well in mathematics.
Katie’s childhood was enriched by the many fun-filled road trips, and vacations she took with her parents and brother. Her youth was full of boating, skiing and sightseeing. She loved her family and friends and often cared for others in need. She was a great help with the care of her grandmother Eileen.
Besides her family and friends, one of Katie’s greatest loves was nature; she loved animals, especially cats. Throughout her life, she had several cherished feline companions and took in many strays. Her love of and her concern for animals was a testament to her big tender heart.
Katie was a kind free-spirt, with a great sense of humor, who didn’t have a mean bone in her body. Even while going through her health setbacks and adversities in her later years she kept her compassion, and would always try her best to help others.
Katie will be deeply missed by those who loved her.
