Jerry was born on January 18, 1944, in Detroit, MI to Ferdinand and Esther Schmidt. He grew up in East Detroit and served in Vietnam from 1966-68. He married Sue-Alice (Lucia) in 1975, and the couple had two children together. They loved skiing and backpacking as a family; Jerry was also an avid gardener and an active member of his Catholic parish of St. Ronald in Clinton Township. For the majority of his career, he worked in finance and retired as operations manager at the Macomb County Health Department.
Jerry is survived by his wife; their children, Lisa (Zackary) Taylor, and Steven; and his grandchildren, Zoey Taylor and Luke Taylor. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, and his sister Joanne (Marshall).
Arrangements for visitation are Thursday and Friday, March 2nd and 3rd, 2023 from 2pm to 8pm at Kaul Funeral Home (35201 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp. 48035). A prayer service will be held Friday, March 3rd at 7:15 pm at Kaul Funeral Home.
He will be lying in state on Saturday, March 4th at 10:30am with Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Ronald Catholic Church (17701 15 Mile Rd., Clinton Twp. 48035).
A Committal Prayer will occur following Funeral Services on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038, where Jerry will be laid to rest.
