Donald Joseph Couwlier, age 92, of Clinton Twp., Michigan, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, surrounded by the care and love of his family. Donald was born on November 28, 1931, in East Detroit, Michigan, to the late Felix and Charlotte (Hanstein) Couwlier.
Donald had a generous and kind soul. He had a great sense of humor, was a jack-of-all-trades, loved classic movies, and enjoyed music of all eras. Donald was a proud Army Mechanic and Korean War Veteran, having earned a Bronze Star for bravery in the line of duty. On October 22, 1952, Donald married the love of his life, Loretta Buechl. They enjoyed 67 beautiful years together with their beloved family until her passing. Throughout his life, Donald worked at Divco and Chrysler (Mopar) as a maintenance worker. He retired from Chrysler in 1994. Donald will be missed by all those he loved and cherished throughout his life.
Donald is survived by his children: Janet (Damien) Karpinski, Donald Couwlier, Mark Couwlier, Charles (Leah) Couwlier, Gary Couwlier, Lori (Mark) Berrens, and Carol (Michael) McMahon; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Burich. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Vincent, James, Robert, David, Gerald, Ronald, Richard, and Mary (Carolyn).
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at St. Faustina Catholic Church - 14025 Twelve Mile Rd., Warren, MI 48088 at 9:30am until the time of mass at 10:30am. A luncheon will be held following the services at Kaul Funeral Home - 35201 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., MI 48035. Donald will be laid to rest at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
