Debra Kay Cole… or Debra Kay… or Debi… was an extraordinary woman who loved deeply with an unwavering faith. Born March 10, 1955, Debi’s childhood shaped her with 14 moves and a strong work ethic at a young age to be the bubbly, outgoing, charismatic, friendly, fun, thoughtful, hard-working woman who was adored by anyone lucky enough to meet her. One flash of her smile revealed dimples that couldn’t be ignored or forgotten. Ask anyone what the first thing they think of when they think of Debi and it’s going to be her dimples.
If you ever found yourself in Debi's orbit, you'd quickly discover the inexplicable way she had of making you feel like the most important person in any room. In grocery store checkout lines, she'd learn the cashier's life story and check in with them about it on her next visit. At truck stops, she'd quickly befriend other families on road trips and get ideas for where to go next. Her genuine interest in others wasn't just charm – it was her superpower.
Debi's calendar was perpetually full because she said "yes" to life. Yes to house painting parties. Yes to trips near and far. Yes to hosting/attending gatherings to support her community of friends. Her life was a masterclass in choosing connection over convenience.
Debi was a daughter to Bob & Julie Brimm, sister to Doug and Nancy Brimm, wife to Jim Cole, mom to Josh, Lucas & Rachel, as well mother-in-law, aunt, cousin, grandmother, godmother, friend, volunteer, mermaid, everyone’s go-to dog sitter, and so much more.
On March 25, 2025, while surrounded by family, God whispered "time to come home," and Debi—always ready for the next adventure—followed.
Debi’s legacy lives on in those whom she made the greatest impact – so say “yes”, take the trip while you can, throw/attend the party, show up for others, lend a hand before they have to ask, pick up the phone instead of sending a text, ask questions and really pay attention, find people who get you and keep them close, show gratitude every day in every way, choose strength as your default mindset, pray like you mean it, know your worth, and believe that it’s okay to get lost as long as you enjoy the journey.
Debi was a once in a lifetime, larger than life, human being and we are all better for knowing her, loving her and being loved by her.
Rest easy in paradise, Debi. You left this world better than you found it.
A Memorial Gathering for Debi will take place on May 3, 2025 from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township.
