Jim Hinton, a man who loved with all his strength, went to be with his Lord Jesus on May 9 after suffering a stroke. He was born on January 6, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of the Jackson area. He was the only child of Homer and Grace Hinton. He attended Jackson Public Schools and was a proud member of the Central High Class of 1949, the 49ers. He attended Millsaps College but became a fan of the Ole Miss Rebels. He said that his loyalty followed the tuition dollars that he sent to the University.
He is survived by the love of his life and best friend his wife, Evelyn. Together they made a great life together. They were inseparable. He had an incredible love for his three children Jimmy (Beth), David, and Rebecca (Dan) and his 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He and Ev have had a special bond over the years with their dear friends Wayne and Fran Bolton ( Ev’s sister) and Al and Mary Lowe Visser.
He was an excellent musician and was the leader of several dance bands that played thru-out the State in the 50’s. He loved to join any orchestra that was playing and contribute with his ‘stand up bass’. He was a 13 year veteran of the Mississippi National Guard and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Jim entered the insurance business in 1952 and was a founding member of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Mississippi. During his long career he was a leading sales person for several companies and his agency’s motto was “Service First”.
Other than his family, his most gratifying time for his was his Dale Carnegie years. He will be remembered by over 2000 men and women who he helped gain confidence, overcome fear and win friends and influence people.
Special thanks to the many physicians and nurses who cared for him over the past 12 years of illness. A very special thanks to Drs. Chris and Becky Waterer who saved his life during a choking incident.
A memorial will be held at Christ United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM on Monday May 12th. The family will receive visitors in the Parlor at 1:00 PM.
Memorials can be made to either CUMC or the Diabetes Foundation.
