Sheridan “Dan” Perkins (82), a lifelong resident of Killingworth, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 24), at the Middlesex Hospital. He was the son of the late Albert Leslie and Etta (Bruggemann) Perkins, also of Killingworth.
As a kid, he worked on the family farm, whether it be milking cows, haying the fields or caring for the animals, including his favorite dog named Tippy. He also participated in the local 4-H, showing his animals at local country fairs. Dan helped his father, known as Leslie, at Leslie’s well known gas station on Route 80, next to the family farm. Dan attended both Hand High in Madison, and graduated (’59) from Morgan High in Clinton.
He loved his hometown of Killingworth, and was actively engaged volunteering in the community for over 60 years. He was a founding member of the Killingworth Ambulance Association, as well as volunteering at the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Department, Killingworth Historical Society, Killingworth Lions Club, Killingworth Library and participated as part of the Killingworth 350th Anniversary celebration, presenting on his time working at the popular local attraction Cowboy Valley, which was opened from 1957-59. At Cowboy Valley, Dan took turns playing both the robber of the stagecoach, and the driver of the stagecoach.
In his adult life, he started his long career in IT at Chesebrough-Ponds, in Clinton, where he got the opportunity to switch into the emerging area of computers. From there he did IT work at Middlesex (Memorial) Hospital in Middletown, Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford, and then on to other IT positions with companies throughout the country.
Dan is survived by his wife of 47 years, Connie Perkins. He also leaves behind three sons, Christopher Perkins (wife Ruth), John Perkins and Anthony Aresco (wife Jazmin), his four grandchildren, Leslie Fraboni (husband Dave), Bryan Perkins, Anthony Aresco, and Arianna Aresco, his great granddaughter Sawyer.
The funeral will be held at Swan Funeral Home in Clinton on Saturday, February 3rd. Calling hours from 10am – noon, immediately followed by a short service at Swan.
