Rodney S. Coleman, 71, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 2nd at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born June 6, 1951 in Watertown, Ny the son of Ralph and Velma Coleman, stepson of Ken Robbins. A graduate of Watertown High School. Later serving active duty in the Navy 1980-1984 a Petty Senior Officer, honorably discharged with multiple Commendations. Recently retired from a supervisory role of 35 yrs. with the Lee company, he was taking time to travel, enjoy nature, and spend time with loved ones. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 31 years, Dorothy Coleman, his brother and wife Ricky and Brigid Coleman, and a proud stepfather to Joline, Linda, and Katherine. “Gumpa” to his 5 grandchildren Henry, Lily, Molly, Samwise, and Daisy. Also brother and sister in law Artie and Wendy Sue Hoyt. Uncle Rodney to the Harwoods and a surrogate son to the Laytons of Watertown joining annual vacations with his chosen family to later extend the tradition to his own. Charity was important to Rodney and he supported many causes including St. Judes and The Audubon Society. Loves in life were nature, photography, and hiking. Rodney believed in service to God, country, and family.
Calling hours will be held Friday, October 14th at Deep River Congregational Church, 1 Church Street, Deep River, CT, 06417 from 2 to 4 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Judes Childrens Hospital. All are welcome to join and celebrate an exemplary life well lived.
