He was born to the late William Gerald and Florence Baker Lucas. Predeceased by his brother William.
Jerry is survived by loving wife, Alice Bestoso and children William and Heidi Lucas, Robert and Liz Lucas and Laura and Bub Dowd. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
After Graduating from Paul Smith College in New York with a degree in Hotel Management, he served his country in the United States Army Reserves, and started his career in the Hotel Hospitality Industry. In 1971 he settled with his family in Killingworth CT.
In the Hotel Hospitality Industry role he had the opportunity to meet and greet many famous people.
In the early seventies, he was actively involved in the DeMerril & Weiker campaigns. His most treasured moments were when he met Ronald and Nancy Reagan and George and Barbara Bush. He met Vice President George Bush often enough that he called him Jerry, not “Mr. Lucas” and he gave “Jerry” a pair of Vice Presidential ‘cuff links’ that he proudly wore for years.
Over the 43 years living in Killingworth Jerry donated his time to the community, he was Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Vice Chairman of the Republican Town Committee, Killingworth Youth League, Little League Coach, member of the Lions Club and for the Killingworth Ambulance Association he served on their Board of Directors, served as their treasurer and was on call rotation as a driver.
Jerry remained active in Killingworth Town Government for many years where he served as Selectman and First Selectman to the town of Killingworth for 8 years. During his tenure he succeeded at obtaining Killingworth its own zip-code. He represented Killingworth in Washington DC for the Superfund initiative, and paved the way for the expansion of the Killingworth Library.
When Jerry had free time he enjoyed spending it with his grandchildren.
Jerry completed and published his memoir in early May 2014 which was distributed to family and close friends. At his time of his passing he was actively writing a fictional novel that has a lot of promise.

Services will be held on Sunday, November 2nd at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main ST Clinton CT from 2pm-5pm.
