1941 and departed this life on July 21, 2021. He
was born to Herbert Sully Simmons and Mattie
Jane Simmons (Baker). He was the youngest of
10 siblings who have preceded him in death.
Spencer, affectionately known as "Ray" accepted
Christ at an early age and joined his family
church home in Forrest City, North Carolina.
He attended Carver high school in Forrest City,
North Carolina and married Vernie McDowell
shortly thereafter. To that union Spencer Ray
Simmons Jr. was born.
He leaves behind a host of other children to include Calvin Davis, Rachel
Williams, Tammy Simmons-Davis, Chester McDowell, Lisa Mills, Terry
and Tracy of Marianne, North Carolina.
Spencer worked for Spindale Mill and other local car lots in Rutherford
County. He absolutely loved cars and was content when fixing almost
anything. While in Cleveland, he worked for the Lancer Motel and in
various factory jobs. He loved good music, fine clothes, fresh fruit, and
going to ALDI. He joined Mount Pleasant Baptist church and was a
faithful member there until the time of his death. During his later years,
he lived in Bedford heights Ohio where his beloved Sister-in Law Betty
Simmons took care of him until he passed. He had a great sense of humor
and coined many phrases as he shared priceless words of wisdom to those
with whom he came in contact. He was a man of few words and will be
missed dearly by his family and friends.
