Rudy was born June 12, 1961, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the fourth son of Gladys R. Irizarry and the late Antonio Irizarry of Puerto Rico.
Rudy proudly celebrated 18 years of sobriety on May 4, 2024, a testament to his strength, determination, and deep desire to help others. His journey to recovery became an inspiration to many, especially those facing their own struggles. He was always there to offer support and encouragement, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives, including his goddaughter, who recently celebrated two years of sobriety.
Rudy had an undeniable gift for bringing joy to those around him. Whether it was his famous homemade pizza or the salsa that earned him the title of "Salsa King," he filled every room with warmth and laughter. His love for classic cars was a reflection of his vibrant spirit—he could often be found at car shows with his son, admiring the craftsmanship and sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts. His presence was magnetic and often boisterous, drawing people in with his easy smile, his stories, and his generous heart. Those moments, whether over a meal or at a car show or at one of our many family gatherings, are the ones his family and friends will hold closest as they remember his full, rich life.
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Karen "Kay" Irizarry; his daughter, Angela Irizarry (Vance) of Florida; son, Rudy J. Irizarry of Cleveland; sister, Susi Irizarry of Parma; brothers, Mickey Rullan (Eva) of Puerto Rico, Jaime Irizarry (Cristina) of North Ridgeville, Osvaldo Irizarry of Florida, and Rodrigo Irizarry (Toni) of Parma; and grandson, Vance Gannon of Florida. Rudy was a beloved brother-in-law to Norm (the late Barb), Meg (Ed), Kat, and to Sue, who preceded him in death, but is survived by her partner Dan. He was also a cherished uncle and great uncle to many, as well as a loyal friend to all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, September 15th, from 12PM to 4PM. with a funeral service at 4PM at the Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home at 14768 Lorain Ave, Cleveland, OH 44111.
