Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cummingsanddavisfh.com for the Lumpkin family.
Michael Anthony Lumpkin, Sr., the first son of Hezekiah and Coreba Lumpkin was born
January 31, 1954 in Cleveland, OH. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at the early age of eleven (11) and was baptized at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Michael graduated from Shaw High School. He worked at Lawson Milk Co. along side his father Hezekiah as a young man, and later became a store manager. He also worked at TRW for eleven (11) years before going into business for himself at 123 Mini Mart. He used his God-given talents to continue his love of entrepreneurship. Satisfied customers were amazed at his painting, plumbing, and all around home repair workmanship. The amazement carried over to his lawn care customers. Word of mouth was his successful advertisement.
Love of family, music, gardening and sports were his hobbies. Michael was a walking historian. He could talk your ears off about family or country. He never forgot a name or phone number. Johnnie Taylor’s “Last Few Dollars” was his favorite blues song. He took great joy in sharing his love of sports with his sons and others. You could often find him critiquing a team or player as he watched a game. Michael made a garden wherever he could find a space. He shared his vegetables with everyone, and always made sure his mother had her fair share. A pillar of the community, he orchestrated the first Neighborhood Block Watch.
Michael never met a stranger, always willing and able to help any and everyone.
He married his wife Erma in 1975, however, they later divorced. To this union was born three (3) sons, Antonio, Hezekiah and Michael Jr. He leaves to mourn his passing, seven (7) sons: Antonio (Latonya) of Phoenix, AZ, Michael Jr., Jeremiah (Mother - Rita), Octavius (Mother - Sabrina), Marvin and Hezekiah (Mother - Barbara) and Nigel (Mother - Dionne) of Cleveland, OH; nine (9) grandchildren; two (2) brothers Kevin and Roger of Cleveland, OH; one (1) sister Annese Lumpkin of Indianapolis, IN; one (1) devoted Godson Edward Swails, Jr.; one (1) devoted Godsister Ruby Stephens of Cleveland, OH; a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and loving caregiver and niece Erin Ward. Preceding him in death were his parents Hezekiah and Coreba Lumpkin, son Hezekiah, brother Jarriette P. (Inez), and Godsister Ruthie Yarbrough.
