JOSE ANTONIO GONZALEZ age 92, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2021. Devoted and beloved husband of 60 years to Maria Paula (Maruja); loving father of Jose Manuel (Kathleen); dearest brother of Melida Sylvia (deceased), Perla Maria (deceased), and Mirella. The love of his life, his wife Maruja, preceded him in death, and his family is comforted that this loving couple will now be united again. Escaping the Communist regime in Cuba in 1968 with his family, Jose Antonio rebuilt his lifethrough hard work and determination. A shoemaker in Ranchuelo, Cuba, he remade himself as a sewing machine repairman at Joseph & Feiss, and later at Fisher Body (a division of General Motors), in Cleveland. He was very proud for his perfect attendance for fifteen years at Fisher Body. Jose Antonio was known as a tinkerer, a Mr. Fix-It, obtaining an HVAC degree after his retirement from General Motors. Jose Antonio was very proud to be an American, receiving his citizenship on the 200th anniversary of the U.S.A. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and developed a skill in word search puzzles in his later years that kept his mind keen until the end. He was known by many for his wonderful kindness, hard work, and overwhelming devotion to his family. Jose Antonio’s family wishes to extend grateful appreciation to the staffs at Cleveland Clinic’s Fairview Hospital and Hospice, MetroHealth Medical Center, and Dr. Giuseppe Antonelli, for the wonderful medical care he received over the years. Contributions in Jose Antonio’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
