Beloved husband of Barbara Landis (nee Stieglitz); devoted father of Halle (Jason) Hebert and Stacie Kachline-Landis; loving grandfather of Dylan, Alexa, Chloe and Molly; brother of Linda (Harvey) Boardman and brother-in-law of Joel (Esther) Stieglitz.
Richard began his career as a teacher in the City of Cleveland. Then he found his passion in real estate management, at Associated Estates as a property manager. He began his own company, R.N. Landis Management Co., in 1979. Over the years, Richard continued to grow his business into a well-known and respected property management firm. He was a highly respected member of CAI, Community Associates Institute, where he earned his P-Cam Certification. He worked with the Ohio Legislature on a House Bill related to liens on behalf of condominium and homeowners' associations. The Bill is still in progress, but Richard's influence will be felt when it hits the House floor. In 2011, Richard merged R.N. Landis Management Co. with Carlyle Management Co., where he continued to work up until the end of his life.
Community was an important part of Richard's life. He was President of the local chapter of the Crohns & Colitis Foundation. He also served as head of Maccabi International, Cleveland. Richard was a lifetime member of Temple Emanu El, where his served as President from 2009-2011. He helped to establish the temple's new home in Orange Village. After his Presidency, he continued his participation as a member of the "Bagel Boys," serving bagels to his fellow congregants every Sunday morning, as long as he was able.
Richard graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1967, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu. He married the love of his life, Barbara, in May 1968. They shared fifty wonderful years together, and renewed their wedding vows just this past May for their 50th wedding anniversary. Family, dining out, and the Cleveland Indians were Richard's lifelong passions.
Richard was always a people-person. He made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered; from his employees, to his business colleagues, to the bank teller at the corner. To know him was to love him. He will be missed by many.
