Jack W. Jaffe age 89, beloved husband of Minda S. Jaffe (deceased). Loving father of Ari (Marlyn) Jaffe, Reva (Sheldon) Wayman, Leah (Simon) Jaffe-Greenwood and Ezra (Marla) Jaffe. Devoted grandfather of Sarah (Daniel) Kasdan, Leora (Noam) Steinman, Ben (Talya) Jaffe, Gabriel (Yael) Wayman, Daniel (Talia) Wayman, Rachel Greenwood, Josh Greenwood, Aliza (Ben) Sass, Hannah (Eitan) Parnass, and Noah Jaffe. Great Grandfather of Shani, Izzy, Moshe, Tova, Liam, Yoni, Adin, Mia, Leo, Ava, Mason, and Serena. Dear son of the late Henry and Sarah Jaffe and brother of the late Alice (Morris) Zipkin, Arthur (Miriam, surviving) Jaffe, Alvin (Arlene, surviving) Jaffe, and Eliezer (Rivka) Jaffe.
Jack graduated from Yeshiva University and Albert Einstein Medical School. He was a longtime urologist who served as Lieutenant Commander at the United States Naval Hospital in Norfolk, and also at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Hillcrest Hospital, Women’s General Hospital, Huron Road Hospital, and the Veterans Administration in Cleveland. Beloved by patients and their families.
A lifelong learner and Zionist, Jack was a community leader, a life trustee of Gross Schechter Day School and Menorah Park. He also devoted many years of service to Taylor Road Synagogue, Green Road Synagogue, Fuchs Mizrachi School, Bellefaire Jewish Children’s Bureau, Jewish Education Center of Cleveland, Maltz Museum, and Physician’s Division of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
He was a supporter of Ogen (formerly Israel Free Loan), the Cleveland Jewish Film Festival, and many environmental causes.
Jack was a student of American Jewish history; a lover of Hollywood and the movies; a collector of coins, stamps, rocks, and hats of all kinds; a great gardener (especially colorful annuals); and a great lover of travel with his wife Minda especially Jewish holidays in Israel and Florida with family.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at 12 NOON at the Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 South Taylor Road, Cleveland Heights, OH. Interment Mt. Olive Cemetery in Solon.
Family will observe Shiva at the residence of Marlyn and Ari Jaffe, 2330 Milton Road, University Heights, OH on Tuesday following the funeral until 8:00 PM; on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 AM to 10 AM, 3 PM to 6 PM, and 7 PM to 9 PM; on Friday from 8 AM to 1 PM; on Saturday from 7 PM to 9 PM; on Sunday from 8 AM to 10 AM, 3 PM to 6 PM, and 7 PM to 9 PM; and on Monday at 8 AM. Daily Minyan at 8 AM and at 5 PM.
