Devoted husband of Carol Packer Berusch (z”l) for 64 years; loving father of Debbie (Steve) Rosen and Russell Berusch; cherished Papa of Brenna and Molly Rosen, Elana, Margalit, and Joseph Berusch.
Howard was born in Cleveland on June 13, 1934 and grew up in Cleveland Heights, later receiving his DDS from The Ohio State University. After a short stint as a dentist in the US Air Force, Howard practiced dentistry in the Cleveland area for more than 50 years, 40 of them in his own private practice, before retiring to spend time on his many passions.
Howard could often be found listening to classical music over the radio, practicing piano, investing in the stock market, or playing poker or craps–usually with an (unlit) cigar in his mouth. An avid sports lover, Howard spent countless hours playing tennis, watching Cleveland Guardians baseball or Browns football games, and meeting up with friends in the Sunday morning Beachwood softball league. Howard loved being well fed and discussing all things food, talking about cars and driving, attending concerts and symphonies, sleeping late, taking long bubble baths, and, most of all, being with his family.
Howard is preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Carol. Howard and Carol enjoyed decades of worldwide travel and took many vacations with their families, including a celebration of their 60th anniversary in Costa Rica, where they renewed their wedding vows.
Howard and Carol focused a great deal of their giving on helping foster children get through college or gain employment after emancipation. He will be dearly missed by many and loved forever.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Cleveland Music School Settlement.
Services will be held graveside at Bet Olam Cemetery (25796 Chagrin Blvd, Beachwood, OH 44122) on Sunday, June 30 at 11:00 am.
The family will receive friends at 3 Bennington Court, (The Village) in Beachwood on Sunday, June 30 from 2pm until 5pm and 7pm until 9pm, and on Monday, July 1 from 2pm until 5pm.
