Carolyn spent her early years in Cleveland Heights, graduating in Cleveland Heights High School’s class of 1949. She earned an M.A. in chemistry from Radcliffe College, working briefly in industry before teaching physical science for several rewarding years at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights. Returning to higher education, in the 1980s, she earned a second M.A. in music history at Cleveland State University.
Until moving to assisted living in 2014, Carolyn arranged Early Music and played woodwinds in various Early Music ensembles. She contributed to Early Music publications both local and national and served as a trustee with their sponsors. For the last ten years, Carolyn was part of the Judson Park retirement community, where she reigned as unofficial “poet laureate” for a few years upon arrival.
Carolyn was devoted to her husband, the late Perry Peskin. Her parents were Henrietta R. Newman and Dr. Leon Newman. She is survived by daughter Laura Peskin and nephews James Peskin and Dr. Lawrence Peskin. Carolyn had a big heart and was loved by family, friends, neighbors and Judson Park associates.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30p on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Mayfield Cemetery, 2749 Mayfield Rd, Cleveland Heights, OH 44106.
A memorial gathering will be held at Judson Park, date TBA.
