It’s been four years since Carl passed and we continue to miss him in many ways.  “What would Carl have thought? Or What would Carl have said?” comes up when something of interest happens. We’ll make our visit to Parkside Avenue soon and Carl will be on our minds a lot. May his memory continue to be a blessing.

We miss you so much, Carl. This past week with your family reminded us of all the happy times over so many years. You left a legacy of goodwill, moral strength and kindness. Our lives are better for the unique team that you and Jean made.

Carl is in our hearts and in our memories always, and especially today while we’re in Cleveland with the family. We think of him with so much affection as we recall our day to day interactions , his smiles and laughter, his sense of humor, his centered points of view, his clear thinking and his understanding of human nature, and his love for his family.

Carl was a friend of my father & myself. I used to deliver medicine to Carl from my dad's drug store,  Riemer Pharmacy. At that time my name was Howard Riemer. The store  was located in the city. I'm not sure of the connection, but my dad was Nate Riemer.  
Carl was a one of the truly great guys. Always a gentleman. He will be missed, but not forgotten by all those that knew him.

We miss Carl so much, and feel his absence in very many ways. With his strong ethical values, his kind and gentle manner, his cogent reasoning skills,  his sense of humor and his deep love of family and friends, Carl has left us full of happy memories of the many years spent in his company. May his memory continue to be a blessing.

Dear Jean & Family,
Over the years, you, Carl, Marty and I would get together whenever we could, at Mitchells for a "catch-up time" to hear how everyone in our families were doing.  Our family liked the Kahn's and Nash's very much, and it's always been a joy to sit with such long-standing friends with whom we share such  wonderful memories.  I remember with pleasure your big brother Sanford joining my brother Ralph and me to play baseball and tennis, and when my brother Chuck married Carl's sister Gloria, it provided an even closer connection for us.  In recent times when we would get together with you and Carl we were just amazed at Carl's ability to face the challenges that came his way.  His disposition was, without exception, very kind and always very calm even though he had so much to deal with.  He always had that little smile that said so much. 
We feel  grateful to have been friends  of Carl and hope he will rest in peace always.

Carl and I did  not see each other in the 64 years that passed from when, in 1953, we both graduated from the School of Journalism at Ohio University, where we also were roommates during our senior year, and fraternity brothers in Phi Sigma Delta.
And then, after a hiatus of many, many years, we renewed our friendship as -- of all things -- pen pals.  
This was some 25 years ago, when Carl sought me out, and we began our second friendship, via that new fangled thing called a computer and its end product -- emails.
It has been great for me -- experiencing once again Carl's rich and varied mind.  He's always been one of the brightest people I know.  And he also brought humor to all of our conversations.  The man loved to joke!
And yes, how he  loved his family.  Telling me about the visits and the family events.  And even some of the legal doings involving the unbeatable trio of Carl Nash, Jean Nash and Joel Nash.
I do miss the man.  My friend.  My roomie.

It’s difficult to express how much we love Carl and are going to miss his gentle and calm, kind and strong presence. He used to joke about how, when he and Jean hosted us back in the 70s, he expected us to arrive at the airport in traditional African garb while brandishing spears. How very fortunate we were and are to have met them both.  We have remained close friends  with them and the family over all these years, and will be forever grateful that we knew Carl so well. What a fine man. What a mensch. 

May his soul find the peace and rest he so richly deserves, and may his memory be a blessing always. 

When Jean and I were walking through Forest Hills Park when we were in high school,  Carl came along. He was a friend of mine and I introduced him to Jean.  He then said to me that this was the kind of woman that he would like to spend his life with.  They had a wonderful marriage and I feel partially responsible! May Carl rest in peace .

I met Mr. Nash when I was in 7th grade, Amy and I were inseparable for many years! I spent so much time at their home and they treated me like I was part of their family. I adored him. He had such a sense of humor and always made me laugh. He had a special pet name for me. He was a wonderful father and one of the kindest men I ever knew.  Mrs. Nash, Amy & Joel you have my deepest sympathy. He may be gone but he’ll never be forgotten. I pray God will comfort all of you during this difficult time.

When I think of my Uncle Carl, my very first (and long-lasting) memory is of him being a young, active man.  I have never viewed him any other way - a sports person - the skiing instructor and tennis player.  I don't (have never)pictured him slowed down by age or illness at all. He always will be my youngest Uncle, handsome, interested in everything -  sly smile when he knew he was funny. Great man. 

My fondest memory is riding together in his tiny Nash Metropolitan (a two-seater) and having him explain to me  how the car worked and needed to be steered as it traveled down the road. 

The world is truly less of a place without him. Love and strength to all the Nashes and everyone who knew him. 

I've known Carl all my life and spent many hours with him, Jean, and the family when I visited in Cleveland over the years. Ditto for my mom, Flora G Smith. Also brother Gary who visited often. The most fun memory was when Carl and Jean won a jitterbug contest while a large Nash group vacationed in Miami years ago! I've dreamed about Carl many times over the past several years and in each dream, he was walking! I hope everyone has great memories and dreams.

I  will miss my Uncle Carl very  much.    He was a hero to our family  and to me.  I would so love to bring him another bowl of chicken soup to hear him tell me how good it was,  one more time! Rest in peace, my  Uncle Carl.


I am saddened to learn of Carl Nash’s passing. I served as the Bailiff and Magistrate of the Honorable Jerome A. Klein, of blessed memory, many years ago and I always loved having  Carl or Jean in our Courtroom whenever Judge Klein needed someone to fill in as the South Euclid Muni Judge in his absence. I recall Carl’s amicable disposition, wonderful intellect, integrity, warmth, and kindness. I always looked forward to the times he served on the bench. It was a genuine privilege to work with him and make his acquaintance.  He was truly a great guy, and I am so sorry for your loss. May G-d comfort your family among the mourners of Zion, and may Carl’s name and memory always be for a blessing.
