William Butner Poindexter, 88, of Winston-Salem passed away August 14, 2011. A service will be held on Wednesday, August 17 @10:30 AM at Forsyth Memorial Park pavilion with Reverend Jack Nance officiating.
Survivors are his wife of sixty six years, Jenell of the home; daughters Gloria P. Barber and husband Gerald E. of Winston-Salem and Shelby Anita Bryant and husband Michael of Greensboro; daughter-in-law, Joanne Poindexter of Clemmons; grandchildren, Anita Barber, Meredith Tuttle and husband Allen, Karen Barber, Sean Bryant, Tony Poindexter, and Amber Parker and husband David; great-grandchildren, Avery Parker, Will Parker and Dylan Barber. He was preceded in death by his son William B. Poindexter, Jr. in January of this year.
He graduated from Courtney High School in Yadkinville. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Poindexter was a US Army veteran and participated in the D-Day Invasion and the Okinawa Campaign. He retired as an engineer associate with AT&T. He and his wife enjoyed many years as members of the Twin City Twirlers square dance club, the Raybuck’s Rounds dance club and mall walking. He loved various types of gardening and has created and left many wonderful memories of taking his children when they were young to baseball games and spending time together as a family. Friends may visit on Wednesday August 17, beginning at 11:15 AM at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road following the service.
