Sidney Eugene Atwood, 85, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on January 8, 1925, in Winston-Salem, NC, to Benjamin Sidney and Ellen Dinkins Atwood. Mr. Atwood enjoyed target turkey shooting, NASCAR racing and watching baseball games especially the Atlanta Braves. He retired from R.J. Reynolds after over 28 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Atwood was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 63 years, Estelle B. Atwood. He is survived by a son, Dennis Atwood and his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Darlene Crews and Marjorie Toma and her husband, Tom; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Westcott.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Atwood will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2010, at Voglers Reynolda Road Chapel with Brother Bucky Frye officiating. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 21, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Reynolda Road Chapel.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff, employees and residents at Vienna Village and the staff and employees at Hospice for their help and kindness; special friend, Bucky Frye; special niece, Carol Rose; and Chaplain Craig Walker of Hospice for his patience and attentiveness to the countless stories that Mr. Atwood shared with him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care.
