Mrs. Lorraine Lillian Ackerson, 76, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012 at her home. She was born on February 27, 1936 to Arthur and Eleanora (Kleist) Hagen. She was raised in Chicago, IL with her sister Shirley Mae (Hagen) Steiner. Lorraine was a graduate of Schurz High School in Chicago and a member of Parkview Lutheran Church.
She married Edward L. Ackerson on September 8, 1956. They raised their two daughters, Debra Anne (Ackerson) Christensen and Donna Lee Ackerson, in Streamwood, IL where they lived for over 30 years. During this time Lorraine worked as a manager for Ben Franklin, Petty Cash (a clothing store) and the local Hallmark store. She enjoyed working in retail, especially with the customers. Lorraine was loved by everyone she met. In Streamwood, she was a member and Sunday School teacher at Grace Lutheran Church.
Lorraine and Ed were semi-retired in Port Orange, FL, near Daytona Beach from 1991 until 2004. They enjoyed spending time there with their daughter, Donna, and her four children: Marcus Eloy Martinez, Stacie Anne Chicklana-Poznecki, Brent Arthur Poznecki and William Joseph Poznecki. Lorraine and Ed then moved to North Carolina to spend time with their daughter Debra, her husband David, and their two children, Kenneth Edward Christensen and Erica Lorraine Christensen.
Five years ago Lorraine’s life was blessed with a beautiful great-grandson, Angel Miguel Chicklana V, born to Stacie and her husband Angel Miguel Chicklana IV. Three months ago a beautiful great-granddaughter, Kynlee Grace Poznecki, blessed the family. She was born to Brent and Amber Michelle (Tanner) Poznecki. Lorraine was looking forward to her trip to FL this November to see Kynlee for the first time.
Lorraine enjoyed many crafts, including crocheting and jewelry beading. Friends and family enjoyed receiving her beautiful handmade gifts. She also made many beautiful things for the church Heifer Project at The Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, where Lorraine was a member.
Lorraine was a beautiful, loving, talented person. Family and friends meant so much to her; she made everyone feel special. She will be missed by her loving friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your local humane society or animal shelter.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, 5220 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A private nicheside service was held earlier that day at Forsyth Memorial Park.
