Joy was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on January 19, 1928 to the late John W. Harper and Bonnie Mae Hill Harper. In 1948, she graduated from Florida State University and married the late Garth E. Bower. They raised two children and lived a happy, productive life together in Florida, Pennsylvania and California, before retiring in Clemmons, NC in 1993 to be near their family. They were avid golfers and enjoyed traveling.
Joy leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Judy Arnold of Mocksville, NC; son, Ken Bower of Clemmons, NC; brother, Cecil "Buster" Harper (Martha) of Raceland, LA; grandchildren, Stephanie Kaye of Clemmons, NC, Tracia Field Lynch (Jody) of Advance, NC; five great-grandchildren, Kaylen, Ana, Jack, Cody, and Olivia; brother-in-law, Steve Kalenich of Parkland, FL; and many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Kalenich.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to three dedicated women who provided care and comfort to Joy in recent years: Gina East, Lisa Marshall, and Samantha Marshall. They loved and cared for Joy as if she was their own mother.
A service will be held at Frank Vogler & Sons in Clemmons at 2pm on Saturday, February 17,2018, with visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joy's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. -
