CLEMMONS - Mr. Joe Elmer Hauser, 79, a loving faithful husband and dedicated father, went on his final journey to be with the Lord early Friday morning, June 4, 2010, at his home. He was born on November 13, 1930 in Stokes County to Elmer Martin and Lucille Kiger Hauser. Mr. Hauser was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and Appalachian State Teacher's College. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving on the USS Antietam aircraft carrier. He was a long-time member of Ardmore Moravian Church. For many years, he worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system in the capacity of teacher, assistant principal, and principal until his retirement as principal of Lewisville Elementary School.
He leaves behind to cherish a lifetime of memories his loving, devoted wife of 55 years, Gretchen Shaffner Hauser of the home, his son Steven McNeil Hauser, and wife Julie, of Advance, NC, his daughter Sharon Hauser Ratledge, and husband Butch, of Clemmons, NC, his sister Virginia Hauser Maultsby, and brother-in-law Wallace Maultsby, of Winston-Salem, NC and his five grandchildren Jacqueline, Matthew and Michelle Hauser of Advance, NC and Jillian and Jacob Ratledge of Clemmons, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Hamilton (Dub) Hauser, and sisters Annie Kate (Katie) Felton and Frances Jane Vickory.
He enjoyed spending time with his family at his beach house, playing golf with the Over-the-Hill gang, going to Mayberry's for ice cream with his grandkids, going to church on Sundays, traveling and having a good time with his friends and family. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the funeral home. Graveside service will follow immediately at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First Tee of the Triad, P.O. Box 236, Clemmons, NC 27012.
