Janet Sue Berry Hoffman passed away on June 2, 2021, at the age of 67 in Clemmons, North Carolina from the effects of Alzheimer's disease. Janet was a dedicated wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, loyal sister and friend and she will be greatly missed.
Janet was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 5, 1954 to the late Zenas and Bernice (Campbell) Berry. On April 24, 1973, she married Paul Joseph Hoffman, Jr. Janet dedicated eight years of her life to being a Navy wife. She stood by Paul dutifully as he served his country. Janet and Paul had their first two children, Heather and Jeffrey, before she went to work as a flight attendant with Piedmont Airlines. Janet then went on to study at Guilford Technical Community College. While enrolled, Janet and Paul had their youngest son, Scott. She went on to receive her Associate Degree in Commercial Art and Advertising Design even though she had a young child. Janet worked as a freelance graphic designer focusing on creating newsletters and printed materials for her church. Later, Janet would work as a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System.
Janet loved playing piano and harmonica. She had the rare talent of playing the piano by ear, which enabled her to play songs after only hearing the music once. She was a very talented seamstress. As a Navy wife, she made all her own clothes as well as her family’s. When she could, Janet loved visiting the beaches of North and South Carolina, walking along the shore collecting shark teeth and shells. She most enjoyed her time with her family.
She leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Paul Joseph Hoffman, Jr.; children, Heather (Eric) South, Jeffrey Hoffman (Elena Nichols), and Scott Hoffman; grandchildren, Caitlin and Gavin South, Ammon, Halle, and Jaxon Hoffman, Emily Hernandez, Ethan Nichols, and Elizabeth Nichols; siblings, Jean (John) Mauro, Nancy (Mac) Musgrove, Barbara Rees, Joseph Berry, and Tammy (Mike) Bentley; sister-in-law, Lindsay Berry; many nieces and nephews; life-long friend, Lezlie DeGrand; and many loved ones and friends. Sadly, on June 5, 2021, Janet's brother, Robert Zenas Berry, passed away in Florida at the age of 56. Janet and her baby brother Robbie are together, again.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 10am at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home in Clemmons. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 9am. Janet will be laid to rest at Salisbury National Cemetery Annex at 2pm.
