Merian Thiele Green, 89, left this life on November 13, 2024 following a prolonged illness. Merian was born July 29, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late William and Lillian Schultz Thiele. She graduated from Afton High School and Washington University in St. Louis where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dress design. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. While a student at Washington University, she participated in several design shows and designed much of her own wardrobe, including her wedding dress. It was there that Merian met her future husband, Fred W. Green, on a blind date. The couple married after graduation in 1957. During the first few years, Fred's career brought them to Aberdeen, Maryland, Crawfordsville, Indiana, Decatur, Illinois and Evanston, Illinois. While living in Evanston, in addition to raising her two daughters, Karen and Sharon, Merian was actively engaged as a preschool teacher and a Girl Scout and school volunteer. She also continued with her sewing by making much of the clothing worn by her daughters. In 1969, the family moved to Clearwater, Florida where Merian assisted her husband with the founding of Gamma Systems Services and Fred W. Green & Associates, Hospital Consultants. She played an active role in both companies through her responsibility for the fiscal affairs as manager of the accounting and payroll processes. In addition, after raising her daughters, she became an avid tennis player. In 1988, Fred and Merian gave up the business world and became dedicated golfers. They were 35 year members of Belleair Country Club where Merian enjoyed regular participation in both golf and tennis groups. In addition, they traveled extensively both on golfing excursions and world travel adventures. Merian was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Joshua Green. She is survived by her husband, Fred; her daughters, Karen Barnes (Bruce) and Sharon Yount (Scott); her three grandchildren, Brady Barnes (Caroline), Brian Barnes (Sydney) and Jessica Yount; her great granddaughter Fiona Barnes; and her brother Russell Thiele (Janene).
Merian was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be remembered for her beautiful smile, abundant kindness and her unwavering sense of humor. She will be missed by many and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Suncoast Hospice
