Matthew R. Belaus

Matthew entered into eternal life at his home in Dunedin, Florida on January 30, 2021 surrounded by his loving family, wife, Lisa, son, Timothy and his wife, Andrea of Fresh Meadows, New York, son, Jonathon and his girlfriend, Margaret Rakoczy of Denver, Colorado and daughter, Caitlin Carnevale of Mahwah, New Jersey.

Matt was born on March 16, 1961 in New York City to Henry and Irene Belaus. He graduated from Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, Connecticut in 1979. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Connecticut and his CPA license in 1983. He worked for Coopers and Lybrand and GTE in Stamford, Connecticut before moving to Dallas. Matt then returned to New York City to the newly formed Verizon Communications for several years before relocating to Randolph, New Jersey with Verizon Wireless.

Matt enjoyed his annual trips with friends to various golf courses around the country. He was an avid skier and traveled with his two sons to some of the world’s finest mountains. Upon retirement, Matt traveled the world with his wife, visiting many countries throughout Europe and Asia always making friends along the way. He also traveled to 49 of the 50 states hitting many of the country’s national parks and beautiful landscapes. Matt was the ultimate host – no matter at his home or others, drinks were always full, food was hot and plenty and laughs were a guarantee. His number one priority was making sure that everyone was having a good time. As a die-hard NASCAR fan, Matt fervently followed the career of his favorite driver, Brad Keselowski, who recorded a personal message of encouragement for him during his difficult 5-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Matt is also survived by his mother, Irene Belaus of Lantana, Florida, his sister, Lucretia Duwel and husband, Edward of Williamsburg, Virginia, and brother, Gregory Belaus and husband, Mark Hatfield of Santa Clara, California in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Matt is preceded in death by his father, Henry Belaus Sr. (2012), his brother, Henry Belaus Jr. (2019) and his grandparents, Louis and Mary Belaus and Vincent and Gabriella Zadrozny.

A Celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road. Clearwater, Florida 33759.
