Our hearts are filled with sadness as we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Lowery at the age of 97 as she was surrounded by her loving family.
Mom was born and raised in Newark, NJ – the youngest of 4 children to Anna and John Jacko. She attended Blessed Sacrament Schools in Newark and later married Raymond Lowery, the love of her life, at the parish church there. Marie and Ray were married for 32 years before his passing and left a legacy of 7 children and their extended families, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Marie’s children include Michael Lowery, Timothy Lowery, Ann Tarrant, Patricia Lowery, Beth Brock, Kathleen Johnson, and Mary Deeley.
One of Marie’s first jobs was as an Executive Assistant with ITT in Nutley, NJ. After starting a family in Dover, NJ, Marie worked at the Daily Advance Newspaper in Dover for many years, focusing on ad sales for the paper. Ray and Marie moved the family to Florida in 1974 and settled into the beautiful Morningside neighborhood in Clearwater. Marie then worked as an insurance adjuster for a local insurance agency in Clearwater until her retirement. She was an active member of Light of Christ Church in Clearwater.
Both Mom and Dad were heavily engaged in family activities as the kids grew up – Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Little League, school shows, and all the other things that 7 kids were involved in. They were also active in the church parish, donating their time to activities at the parish school and participating in the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society.
Marie and Ray shared their love of the sun and the beach with the family, with favorite beach spots being Shady Lane and Horseshoe Lake in Northern New Jersey, the Jersey Shore, and Clearwater Beach in Florida.
Mom was an avid fan of both the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Rays and could talk these sports with the best of them! She was also a fan of big band music, and more than anything, had a great love for Frank Sinatra music, leading to the “family song” being “My Way”.
One of Mom’s favorite shows was Jeopardy. Mom and Tim would always confer during commercial breaks on the answer to the final Jeopardy question. She loved Blue Bloods with Tom Selleck as well as all the animal shows she could find. And we all got a kick out of the fact that she would watch Naked & Afraid – a show she loved to hate!
Mom was the foundation of our family. Our matriarch. Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother. We love her and will miss her tremendously.
