Malcolm was a friend to all and to those fortunate enough to meet him, he was never forgotten.
To know Malcolm was a privilege, to be a witness to the amazing life he led, an honor.
How to define and describe that amazing life is the struggle at hand…..
We could put labels on him:
A family man – a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew – dedicated and loyal with unconditional love.
A student – deemed unteachable as a young child, proved all wrong.
Graduating from his beloved Hinkley High School in Aurora, CO and obtaining certificates in Horticulture and Greenhouse Business from TH Pickens Technical College, Aurora, CO, in Restaurant Management from Emily Griffith Opportunity School, Denver, CO and Computer Literacy and PC technology Video Training from the US Department of the Army.
A survivor – uncountable hospitalizations with countless surgeries. Tolerating braces, casts, chronic pain…. nothing that would slow him down. He would never let his health define him.
A fan – baseball, basketball, football, bowling, fishing, games, movies, tv, music; a loyal fan maintaining season tickets, owning uncountable videos, collections and memorabilia, a spectator and a participant.
A volunteer – loyal participant and contributor of March of Dimes, Easter Seals, Special Olympics, HealthCare9, multiple military and civilian events and so many more.
An artist – music, painting, cooking, poetry and writing, all expressed in the unique Malcolm way.
A friend – befriending anyone in need with a open and accepting heart, promoted joy and healing. Malcolm saw everyone as equal opportunity for friendship.
A servant of God – a believer, a Knight, devout and faithful, serving as an alter boy, an usher and a parishioner throughout his life.
Or we could try to define him with words:
happy, inspirational, silly, accepting, unforgettable, a fisherman, tolerant, a fan, smart, gentleman, a storyteller, jokester, a collector, loving, a bowler, loyal, joyful, faithful, a Knight, a believer, a brother, a son, a friend.
Regardless of how we choose to define or describe his amazing life, Malcolm accepted every person as they were and in doing so touched and impacted every heart he met.
Malcolm H Wood III, never to be forgotten and a friend to all.
