Katherine “Kitty” Streetman Roop, of Clearwater, FL, passed away on July 11, 2018 in North Richland Hills, TX. Her beautiful soul has been delivered with great love into the arms of her Savior. She will always be remembered as a precious little lady, devoted to her four girls, grandchildren, and all things in the natural environment. She was born on May 19, 1926 in Mulberry, Florida to Emmet and Josie Streetman.
Kitty’s young life began in central Florida, the youngest of six siblings. She was the first in her family to graduate high school. She met her husband, Robert (Bob) in Orlando and married in 1947. They had four daughters and many cats, fish, a squirrel and several dogs! Kitty raised her girls at home until the last one was in Kindergarten. They lived in Orlando until 1967, moving to Tampa, Florida and then Clearwater where she and Bob remained until his death in 2005. Several years after that she moved to North Richland Hills, Texas to live with her daughter, Penny. Over these years, Kitty was known as a very loving, happy person who loved all things of nature, crafting, and incorporating natural “finds” into her crafts – wreaths, greeting cards, and other art. She was very proud when she became an associate teacher for a non-profit organization in Clearwater serving intellectually disabled individuals. She found her calling in this role, which allowed her creative spirit to come alive. She loved the Streetman Family Reunions, held every year in Florida from 1956 through about 2004. In her last years, Kitty suffered from dementia, but she made friends easily with everyone she met and had a kind word or compliment for each. She loved to laugh and enjoyed being silly with her grandchildren.
Kitty is survived by her four daughters, Penny (Gary) Baxter, Vicki (Steven) Simpson, Laura (Michael) Roberts, Amy (Stephen) Hand; sister, Martha Woods; Grandchildren, Logan Hand, Chloe Hand; Step Grandchildren, Leann Simpson, Laura Simpson Johnson, Melissa Chupco, Great grandchildren, Haley and Abigail Johnson and Mackenzie McPhee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Roop.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10 o’clock a.m. on Wednesday, July 18 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home with a reception to follow in the Bluebonnet Family Lounge. Interment will be in Clearwater, Florida at noon on Saturday, July 21 at Sylvan Abbey.
