Herron, John, 93, of Seminole, Florida, passed May 31, 2021. Born in New Milford, CT as Jay Albert Hine on February 23, 1928 to father, Howard I. Hine and mother, Bessie Irene Parker. On December 21, 1942 his name was legally changed to John Herron by his mother, Bessie I. Herron and her husband, Lex L. D. Herron. They moved to St. Petersburg, FL when John was around 4 years old. He attended Florida Military Academy from age 8 – 18 and graduated from Duke University with a BA in Business Administration, June 1, 1953. Served in US Army February 19, 1953 - February 18, 1955 as Sergeant at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was trained in Baltimore, MD Army base in counterintelligence (CIA). John worked for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA between the years of 1955 - 1958. He also worked and retired from Martin Marietta in Orlando, FL after 30+ years of service.
John loved the beach (specifically Sunset Beach, FL where he grew up), traveling, cruises and most of all his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mar Jo Tate Herron; sons, Gregory A Herron (wife, Dr. Bernice Johnson) and John Michael Herron (girlfriend, Wendy Cleveland); daughters, Suzanne Herron MacArthur (husband, Richard MacArthur) and Martha Jo McWaters(husband, Kent McWaters); Granddaughters, Melissa Franklin DiCenzo, Kayla MacArthur, Sarah McWaters and Shannon McWaters; Grandson, Michael McWaters; Great-Granddaughters, Natalie DiCenzo, Abigail DiCenzo and Lillian DiCenzo. A memorial service will be 11am June 26 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home followed by Inurnment in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home.
