With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Ellen Mary (Rosener) Rodnite of Clearwater, Florida, who passed away on November 5, 2021, at the age of 83 from ovarian cancer. Ellen was diagnosed, treated and passed away close to her summer home in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey.
Ellen was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 27, 1938, the oldest child of Charles and Rose (O’Reilly) Rosener, who predeceased her. Ellen attended Our Lady of Wisdom Academy and was the proud recipient of “The Latin Medal.” Upon her high school graduation, Ellen continued her studies to become a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Greenwich Village, New York City where she was honored to kiss the Cardinal’s ring during her graduation. Ellen spent more than 40 years working as an RN in multiple cities but most cherished her time working closely with mothers and infants in the NICU at Mease Hospital, Dunedin, Florida. Ellen was proud to maintain her RN licensure until after her 80th birthday because “you never know.”
Ellen was renowned for her sewing, crafting, and especially her knitting skills. She was always eager to give a hand-knit blanket to a newborn or expectant mother, many of whom she never even met. Ellen also loved to sew colorful pillowcases for her extended family and for charities that provided them to sick children. If asked, however, Ellen would tell friends and acquaintances that her greatest accomplishments were each of her six children.
Survived by her husband Andrew Rodnite Sr. “Jack”, her sister Rosemary (Paul) Fuerst, and her children: Judith (Richard) Silverman, Andrew (Molly) Rodnite Jr., Michele Winsor, Peter Rodnite, Karen (Kenneth) DePasquale, and Susan (Daniel) Clark. Beloved “Nana” to her eight grandchildren, Ellen found joy in connecting with family and celebrating all those around her.
Funeral services are tentatively planned to be held in Clearwater, Florida on December 29, 2021 at 10:30 am at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church Burial will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Ellen’s name at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity dear to her heart.
