She was born to the late, Jim and Cora Orr in Detroit, Michigan on the 25th of May, 1929. Her formative years were spent with her 6 siblings, 5 of which were older than her. At 18 years old, she met the love of her life, Alden K. Toney at their church, the Downtown Gilead. They married shortly after on August 8th, 1947, and together raised 4 children in a loving home, while serving God and their church.
After raising their Family, Betty and Alden moved to Florida in January of 1984. In her new home, The Sunshine State, Betty maintained a professional career as the Administrator of the New Port Richey Urology Center. After retirement, Betty spent many years living in New Port Richey, and eventually Palm Harbor enjoying the company of her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great-great grandchild.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Alden, her parents, Jim and Cora Orr, five of her siblings, her son-in-law, Dave Edwards and her granddaughter, Ashley. Left to cherish her memory and legacy are her sister, Corine Toney, her children, Irma Edwards, Jerry (Carol) Toney, Greg (Sharron) Toney and Lisa (Jeff) Welsh, her 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
A celebration of Betty’s life will take place at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home on Sunday, June 13th from 1-2 pm.
Facing death and reflecting on memories with her family, Betty reflected that it “was a joyful time.” Betty’s life was filled with these moments of joy because of the love and devotion she poured into serving God and her Family. Her legacy of service and love will be remembered forever.
