Allan Wallace Whitman, 73, of Largo, FL and formely of Massachusetts, died Thursday at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL. Born in Milton, MA to the late Archie V. Whitman and Bernice May Geddes Whitman, he was raised and educated in Rockland, served as a Private in the United States Marine Corps as an Aviation Mechanic and later attended Northeastern University.
Allan retired from Boston University's Medical Center where he rose from Sargent to Lieutenant and later became the Director of Security. Prior to his career at BU he worked at General Dynamics in Quincy. After his retirement he moved to Ocala, FL where he worked in security at Munroe Regional Medical Center. He later moved to Largo, FL where he was an active Volunteer with the Largo Police Department - VIP Program. Allan was a dedicated Member of the Marine Corps League, Morris F. Dixon Jr. Detachment #54 where he served as Chaplin and Property Manager, and also was a proud member of the Military Order of Devil Dogs, Pound #79. He enjoyed time spent with his wife Susie especially while cruising and attending Daytona 500; looked forward to his annual summer trip home to vist famiy and friends; brothers trip to Nascar race in NH; fishing, especially with his brother Bobby; and enjoying new england food at Lobster Hut, Wahlburgers, Cup Cake Charlies and Chinese food at any restaurant. Allan treasured precious times spent with his grandchildren, individually and collectively.
He is survived by his beloved wife Susan Whitman, their dog Shep, four daughters, Anne and her husband David Chiulli, Jr. of Ocala, Sara Whitman-Lees of Dennis, Sharyn and her husband Sebastiao Campos of Abington, and Mellissa and her husband Donald Sigourney of Braintree; nine grandchildren, Theresa, Daniel, Jared, Kevin, Marshall, Matthew, Alicia, Helena, Ryan and Samantha; five great grandchidren, Morgan, Serenity, Travis, Marie, and Amelia; siblings include, Richard, Sandra, Nancy, Bruce, Paul, Marilyn, Bobby and his late twin brother Arthur; numerous neices and nephews; life long friend Robert Gaffney.
Memorial Service in Florida to be held at the Morris F. Dixon, Jr. Detachment #54 located at 1156 Jasper Street, Largo, FL from 1:30-3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Allan Whitman. A Celebration of Life will be held in Massachusetts at a later date.
