Shelton Dwight Benson

Shelton Dwight Benson, born October 31,1943 to the late Leon and Ruby Sasser Benson of Clayton passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 at the age of 79. Dwight retired from Wake Medical Hospital and had spent most of his retirement time gardening. He also enjoyed attending Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by wife, Janice Thrower Benson; daughter, DeeAnna Benson Kennedy and her husband, James; granddaughters, Haley Gale Kennedy and Madeline Grace Kennedy; and a brother, Edward Benson.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Benson; sister-in-law, Gertrude Benson; a sister, Leona Ellis, brother-in-law, Lexie Ellis; brother, Larry Benson; sister-in-law, Jeannie Benson and sister-in-law, Louise Benson.

A visitation for Dwight will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home with a celebration of Dwight's life following at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home. An interment will occur Thursday, June 1, 2023 following the services at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
