Russell David Scanlon, 89, of Clayton, NC went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, November 7, 2017. He was born in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Earl and Helen Scanlon. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorris, of 62 years. He is survived by his five children, Sue (Tom) Glithero of Smithfield, NC, Dennis (Carol) of Avon, IN, Cindy (Gary) Price of Knoxville, TN, Mike (Kim) of Simpsonville, SC and Beth (Mike) of Indianapolis, IN. He also had three granddaughters, five grandsons and one great granddaughter. As well as his special friend, Judy Barefoot. Russ was in sales all his working life. He was primarily in business machines sales and had his own company for many years, before retiring in 1989. He also enjoyed woodworking. Russ was also in the Air Force for several years, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in May 1952. Russ also was in both the Indianapolis and Shelbyville Optimist Clubs for many years, serving as president for several years. Russ loved his church and everybody in it. A visitation will be at the Way of Life Baptist Church at 11AM on Saturday, November 11 with the funeral service immediately following at 12 PM. The service will be conducted by Pastor Scott Tucker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Way of Life Baptist Church, 2129 Harmony Court, Clayton, NC 27520.
