Ricky Lynn Coats, age 55, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield surrounded by his family. Ricky was born in Johnston County on August 20, 1966 and worked for the News and Observer in Raleigh. A gathering of friends will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 3:00 - 5:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton and at other times at the home of his sister in Smithfield.
Ricky is survived by his mother, Beverly "Sue" Coats; sister, Tammie Coats Anderson; nephew, Mikey Anderson; niece, Amber Powers; great nephews, Hunter Powers and Jesse Powers. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward "Peter" Coats; brother-in-law, Charlie Anderson and a nephew, Brian Anderson.
While flowers are accepted, memorial contributions may also be made to the Fresenius Kidney Care Center of Johnston County 545 E. Market St. Smithfield, NC 27577.
